This comic is based on actual events. The cat in question is actually my cat Stumpy. Some of you may remember she broke her leg a few months back and things were starting to look up. We had gotten a pin put in her leg and it had started to heal according to x-rays, but apparently she was not getting proper blood flow to the leg so id did not heal completely and she has since re-broken it while hopping up some stairs. So now our options are to either get a plate put in her leg for another thousand, or get the leg amputated for free. I may be a horrible person but part of me is actually considering the amputation... I'm a horrible person...

I know it sounds horrible, but really it is better for the cat if you just amputate. This is not about money either: it is about the cat's wellbeing. Cats and dogs recover surprisingly quickly from amputation, unlike humans. The human thing to do is to try and save the leg, but really putting your cat through surgery is more painful for her, and she can't tell you there is ongoing pain (which there likely is now).

You're not a horrible person for considering amputation. You may notice that you cat suddenly becomes more active after the amputation, as it isn't dealing with the pain (I have seen that happen before).
